Here is my setup for dyeing the fiber/yarns. It's located in our basement which is really nice when I have to leave supplies out. I can just shut the door from upstairs and it doesn't affect my workflow or my family life.
The contraption in the photo above is called a yarn swift. I had some 100% merino sock yarn that I had in my stash that was wound in skeins and I wanted to count off approximately 40 yards per mini skein so I could do some test dyeing.
I tend to like the more muted colors rather than the bright and flashy. The above and below picture show my favorites.
I love the yarn color above, it's a combination of green, blue, grey and mauve.
The next few pictures are of ombré colored yarns.. The above pic is Caribbean blue
moss green is my favorite color of green so far
This is a combo of flamingo and orchid pink
I tried to do 5 mini skeins a piece at 40 yds each but there are a few with extra yardage and a few with less..
Mini skeins are really popular right now for sock knitting, fair isle color work, and for making smaller accessories such as mug cozies, hats, cowls, mittens, etc. I will be posting again soon to show you what project I used the above skeins for.. Hopefully you will like it!
